On some servers, the initial installation of Drupal will fail the clean URLs test.

Just giving the server an initial path, "/" in .htaccess solves this problem.

Keywords: .htaccess rule change Drupal clean URLs

To be specific...

# Modify the RewriteBase if you are using Drupal in a subdirectory and
# the rewrite rules are not working properly.
RewriteBase /

"Just giving the server an initial path, "/" in .htaccess solves this problem."
